Multifit flueing is the key to flexible boiler siting
As a rule, the greater the output of the boiler, the shorter the flue length can be. For some companies this has become critical for their more powerful boilers, severely restricting the siting of the boiler to avoid longer flue lengths. Baxi boilers, even for outputs of 40kW, have a potential distance of 10 metres maximum equivalent length for 60/100 vertical or horizontal concentric flues and 20 metres maximum equivalent length for 80/125 vertical or horizontal concentric flues.
And calculating the equivalent flue length is simple: the first bend is ‘free’ then a one metre reduction for each 90 degree bend and half a metre reduction for each 45 degree bend.
The benefit of this flexibility is that Baxi boilers can be specified for siting in areas where other brands of boilers would be restricted due to short flue lengths. This means, for example, that the flue can be positioned to avoid an awkward roof truss, or the boiler can be sited in a more discreet situation in the home rather than having to be on an outside wall.
Under the Multifit brand, the telescopic flue kit for Baxi boilers provides a length of 350 – 500 mm, and flue lengths are available in 0.25 metre, 0.5 metre and 1 metre. This means that there is hardly ever a need to cut a length of flue, reducing installation time and wastage, which is a particular consideration for newbuild. The flue sections are joined using a simple push seal mechanism with two positive screw connections giving reassurance that the joint will not come apart.
By popular demand, white, black and brown terminal options are now available to better blend into the building. Where pluming is likely to be a nuisance, a new plume management kit has been introduced. Available in black or white, the new kit can be retrofitted to the flue terminal and is competitively priced and easy to fit. And for even greater flexibility, a new ridge tile terminal is available.
It is a requirement of BS5440 that the flue is fixed every metre, and the Multifit Flue comes as a complete kit in a box providing two wall support brackets for every metre of flue. The kit also includes silicone grease and fixings.
Paul Haynes, Head of Product Management at Baxi, says: “Every boiler requires a flue, and the maximum equivalent length of the flue can be a determining factor in the choice of boiler and where it is sited. The Multifit flue offers great flexibility for routing, length and colour, and we are continuing to and provide even greater and more innovative benefits to help installers.”
