Davey creates DECC energy efficiency policy team

A new team tasked with delivering better energy efficiency policy has been set up within the Department of Energy and Climate Change by energy and climate change secretary Ed Davey.

Davey said energy efficiency was "the cheapest way of cutting carbon - and bills for consumers. It has to be at the heart of what we do."

The 50-strong unit will be called the Energy Efficiency Deployment Office (EEDO), although its staff, pulled from within Decc, will also continue to work on programmes such as the Green Deal and the smart metering programme.

Speaking today, Davey promised that EEDO would deliver an energy efficiency strategy by the end of this year. To support the strategy, EEDO has launched a call for evidence asking where govbernment should prioritise its focus, what lessons can be learned from other countries and how Decc can incentivise process efficiency.
