Infrastructure Planning Commission applications go live

IPCThe IPC was today switched on to start receiving applications for nationally significant infrastructure projects in England and Wales by Rt. Hon. John Healey MP, Minister for Housing and Planning.

We first opened our doors for business on 1 October 2009. Since then we have been preparing to receive project applications. The first of these are anticipated from the energy and transport sectors shortly. View our Programme of Projects which details 21 of the applications we expect to receive from applicants in the coming months here.

IPC Commissioners, appointed for their expertise, will examine applications and decide whether to grant development consent. They will make their decisions within the framework of National Policy Statements (NPSs), balancing the national benefit against the local impact.

If the relevant NPS or NPSs are in place, the IPC will make the decision on an application. If they are not, the IPC will make recommendations to the Secretary of State.
