Consultation on the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)

Renewable Heat IncentiveGovernment has published its consultation on the introduction of a Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme, which it aims to introduce in April 2011. Deadline for responses is Monday 26 April. The scheme should support a range of technologies, including air and ground-source heat pumps (and other geothermal energy), solar thermal, biomass boilers, renewable combined heat and power, use of biogas and bioliquids and the injection of biomethane into the natural gas grid.
Ed Miliband, Energy and Climate Change Secretary, also announced this week the feed-in tariff (FITs) levels which, from April, will allow households and communities who install generating technologies such as small wind turbines and solar panels to be be entitled to claim payments for the low carbon electricity they produce. A typical 2.5kW well sited solar pv installation could offer a homeowner a reward of up to £900 and save them £140 a year on their electricity bill.
